I think there’s a scene missing,when Sarah shooting Lacus at first time,i think there’s scene that Athrun saved Lacus…..

In GS Kira is portrayed perfering to fight with a Gundam rather than a handgun. One, he actually threw a gun instead of shooting at one point to save Andy (correct me if I am wrong) So did Cagalli but thts a different matter (does it run in the familly?)Then when Kira follows Mwu, Mwu has to remind him to unlock the safety lock.

I’m not sure if Kira still doesn’t like guns but in the episode where ZAFT attempts to kill Lacus, Murrue and Andy are they ones shooting the assasins. Kira is shown helping the others escape therefore it is likely Kira either A hates using guns, B has not used one in a while or C, both.
