Asahina Mikuri no Bouken
Self-proclaimed super director Suzumiya’s first project — a story about a combat waitress from the future.
By: abq
At first glance, Mikuru Asahina appears to be just like any other high school girl. Well, except for her extremely enormous bust and tendency to wear bunny suits and maid outfits. Equipped with huge ballistics and large firearms, she… ehm… stalks Itsuki Koizumi.
It is a shame that the brilliantly choreographed battle scenes are held back by lack lusting special effects. Perhaps we will see a digitally remastered version in the future.
It is quite apparent that Suzumiya borrows inspiration from the works of other directors. For example, Mikuru dual-wielding guns is obviously a homage to John Woo.
Young and pure readers should be warned that this movie contains, in addition to mild graphical violence, some rather disturbing and mind corrupting scenes. For such a short movie, there sure are quite a lot scenes with implied vaginal penetration — sometimes forced.
In the hands of a more experienced crew this might have been a decent flick. At its current state, it feels like an obsessed fangirl’s fanfic.
4 The Movie
A surprisingly unintelligent mish-mash of genres and non sequiturs that the first-time director Suzumiya doesn’t manage to pull off all the way through. The only things that save it from being a total disaster are the titties.
2 The Video
What the hell, 16:9 aspect ratio with 4:3 screen!? How did this pass QA?
5 The Audio
Miruku-chan’s inexperience, while charming, feels awkward at times.
8 The Extras
Good commentary track provided by Kyon offers additional insight in the production.
4 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
MP3 rip of the opening theme of Asahina Mikuri no Bouken.
PS. Even Simon Cowell likes it.
PSS. Awesome episode.
