505 Games will no longer publish controversial horror title Rule of Rose in the UK.
The game was due to go on release today, but has faced a storm of criticism regarding its content, with even the Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, and European justice and security commissioner Franco Frattini blasting the games’ “obscene cruelty and brutality.”
“Following discussions with our retail and publishing partners, 505 Games has taken the decision not to publish Rule of Rose in the UK at this time,” said the publisher.
The move is an about turn by 505 Games, which recently challenged critics to view the game itself, after ratings boards PEGI and the Interactive Software and Video Standards Council judged the title suitable for release.
So the Mayor of Rome doesn’t like a game with loli lesbian undertones. Too few altar boys being molested for his taste I guess.

What’s going on in the world??? Has everyone got crazy? It is a game, nothing more! I thought that the English were clever.
But, why did italians have to decide what is good for the english people? It doesn’t make any sense.
And by the way, those freckles are way too hot, luckily, here in Argentina we can play any game we want, because I love these kind of games.
Violent games blamed for German school attack.

The second one works…
By the way, when are the psicologists (if this is how it is written) going to explain them that a game can’t make a person go kill her school mates? You need to have a special psychic structure to do something like that. In a normal person, the effect only can affect the phantasy and nothing more.
There are so much ignorant and uninformed people around, but the strange thing is that nobody there would tell them the wrong they are.
Ghghgh!
I’m italian and in Italy is born a big controversy upon this game…
Much tv shows who blame the violent game for the violence of reality…
But…
This game is the most reserved game of this month! Most of FFXII! ^O^
And , when this game was etiquetted “insane”, I though… “I MUST HAVE… I MUST PLAY THIS GAME”!
Seeyaa
Never heard of this game before (but i’m not in the FFXII fan-crowd, that must be because of that ;p) and even if I always find it a little sad whenever a form of censorship strikes, I begin to get sick of the bunch of ultra-violent and gory games that are all the rage among teens. Good riddance.
Geez, this is like when getting a movie or book banned in Boston was the best advertising possible. I hadn’t heard of this title till reading this and maybe wouldm’t ever have except for the ban. So where can I buy this in Pennsylvania and for pc? Now sight unseen and with no other information I don’t want one, I want two copies!
jos, it’s not PC, it’s PS2. And go to your local Gamestop/EBX/whatever local gamestore you have (though dunno about best buy and such, use a dedicated game store) and they should still have copies.

This one made my day. Godspeed abq.
there taling about banning the game in the whole of the eu
a wel gues il have to download it to play
what i find most stupit is that peaple in politics think banning a game wil stop peaple from playing it
the oposit is true the more peaple talk about banning the game the more peaple wil play it
Just yet another clever marketing way.
When all the ‘officials’ bash’n'ban it, its sure way to raise at least attention - if not interest - of all the teenage and tweenie gamers.
This advertising scheme has been played so many times it really surprises me that people still fall for it :/
This reminds me of the Rockstar Games controversy. The flame of war still burns.
