   abq, what are you planning to do with bot voting? One solution I see is that if you catch bots being used, both characters are out of the tournament. Though, the problem with this is that those botters can strategically place those bots… which I won’t get into any further detail.

   What do you mean not happen again? There was a voting bot for Eva too. Unless, that hacker did it for the sole purpose of countering Desu. I still think my solution is the best for the non-technical savvy.

    No good. You know quite well there are unfortunately people pathetic enough to simply use bots for EVERY character, with the sole purpose of ruining the entire tournament.

    We should just go on and vote like normal now, and hope for the best.

    I dont know which side it was to start with the votebotting, which resulted in the other side having to counter with the same. Personally, I hope that the persons doing the botting get banhammered, but that’s not my choice to make. If it was botting (which is extremely likely, but not totally certain), it was either started by an Anti-meme person for the purpose of getting SSS out, or by a meme person for the purpose of making her win. But this is just me stating the obvious. If Suiseiseki did’nt have the following she does on certain #chan sites, then this match would have gone perfectly normally.

    As for your method, you stated the exact reason why we should’nt use that method. People will start using bots to get characters disqualified without limit, messing up the entire tournament beyond repair.

    That’s why I say we should just forget about what happened here, since there is really no perfect solution to the problem of votebotting.

    Perhaps I under estimated the obviousness of my plan’s flaw. But, my plan was formed on the assumption that the bot maker wanted a certain character to win. But, if as you say it, the person just wants to ruin the loli battle, there’s really no point in continuing further…

    We can’t stop the people from fucking it up if they want to, without abq redoing the poll and handing the coding over to someone who can implement more draconian voting measures like SaiGAR employs. So if you think there’s no point, take your own advice and don’t vote. I’m just going to vote and TRY to have fun with it again, like I did before yesterday. If they fuck it up, then oh well. If they don’t, then I’ll be hapy to keep participating.

    The point I’m trying to make is that if you want this battle to be fun in any sense of the word, SOME measures will need to be taken. Hoping will not do anything, as if abq qualifies, Eva, what’s to stop the botter from botting again? IS there a point when you know that the botter is going to win?

    And my point is, abq has indicated that he doesn’t have the time or tech savvy to put such measures in place, so talking about it at all just seems moot. And the more it’s brought up, the more you keep the spammers’ attention on it, so that’s the last I’m saying about the issue.

    Unfortunately, nothing can really secure an online voting system such as this. Some steps can be taken to keep people from voting through public proxies and the like but there is always a way around it and eventually you have to start banning entire subranges that look suspicious. That will disenfranchise and anger regular non-cheating voters.

    Basically all these systems come down to is only allowing one vote per IP address and if you live anywhere in the first world you can’t go 5 minutes without coming across something with an IP address. My cell phone, my desktop in my room, my laptop when I’m in the lounge, all the computers in the labs here on my campus. Pretty much any workplace has at least one computer and large office complexes can have thousands. Plus there are dialup users with dynamic IPs that get a new one every time they sign on.

    With all these computers what’s to stop someone from “manually” cheating. I could go into a computer lab on campus, sign into every workstation, vote on each one, and probably average one vote per minute. With only about 1700 total votes, a team of 3 or 4 people with no lives and an afternoon to kill could easily tilt any vote this small.

    And now back to our regularly scheduled Lolitron comment…

    now i wasn’t here for this whole fiasco but im going to have to agree with anyone who says let it go. obviously this matchup was too heated for people to simply vote normally or cheat “manually”. i think the best we can hope for is that people will realize how much time and effort will have been wasted on everybody’s part up until now, if people continue botting/cheating; because nobody here with any respect will stand for it, and id personally rather see the battle collapse entirely and be rebuilt than let there be a winner through hacked means.
