More times than not, Western opinion on likable characters completely clash with Japanese opinion.

Case in point, most in the West thought the Fate/stay Night anime was mediocre (not to say it wasn’t disappointing), but the fact is Saber’s probably not the best liked in the West, while she is by FAR the most popular back home, which is why the anime was based on the Fate Scenario in the first place.

It’s really to same thing with Fate, though Fate’s better liked by the Western audience, she’s ridiculously popular back home too.

The Japanese have a thing for blondes in general.

You’re talking about their mindset as of right now, right? And everything except from what you’ve read brings you to this conclusion hm? I’ve heard mixed opinions on the whole subject from both first and third person, but that comparison really doesn’t do them justice…at all, for a few reasons.

As for what brought that about in the first place, unanimous opinion has it that Japanese men got white girl fever. I understand why completely, blondes are excellent. But let’s not lose sight of the task at hand with all that shit.

It’s a pity you could not find interest in one of, if not the most bad-ass Mahou Shoujo series ever– but I suppose not everyone can appreciate its pure innocence mixed with its sikly gorgeous animation, and eye popping action sequences.

Even if Nanoha didn’t do it for you, try Nanoha A’s. It gets into the action a lot quicker, and IMO is much more tightly plotted.

At the very least, consider checking out the first episode of A’s.

Given the context of this blog, I don’t want to start a giant flame war, so I’ll just leave this with this: that my humble opinion would be if you replaced “pure innocence” with “boring and trite characters”, “si(c)kly gorgeous animation” with “mediocre animation”, and “eye popping action sequences” with “sophomoric action frames”.

But then again, I did only watch a couple of episodes of Nanoha and A’s so I really couldn’t be giving a fully credited critique.

Four reasons to vote on Fate.
1-) Fate is my favorite loli in a show packed with loliliciousness everywhere. Knee-highs, black leather, Bardiche, Fate x Nanoha.
2-) Haven’t seen Demonbane and I’m not about to start doing some research on her on my one-week return to dial-up hell.
3-) Aru beat Shinku, the Rozen Maiden who I thought would be the best fit for the tournament (still voting for Desu, though) in the first round. So it’s belated revenge for me. Muauhauha.

Sorry didn’t mean to give my opinion on that kinda subject as I don’t know firsthand. I’m sure Europeans aren’t discriminated against any more than others amongst the gaijin population, but from what I know from people living in Japan currently, it’s somewhat of a mutual respect relationship for Nihonjins. You show the respect they deserve, and they do it right back at you. A real golden rule on foreign policy.

i was just reading the posts and i cant believe how many people consider Fate an emo. Now Shinji “spelling?” from Neon Genesis or Kaede from shuffle “mostley near the end of the series” are true emos. fate was just too devoted to her mother. don’t confuse emo with a goth lolita that shows emotion. I grew up with true goth emos that liked cutting them selves and have tried to kill themselves on more then one occasion. Despite her apearence she is no emo.

Who said I was abusing anyone? I was saying that in RL the basis of age of consent laws is that young girls don’t understand what they are getting into or are easily manipulated and taken advantage of. Because the courts are to lazy to deal with it on a case by case basis it was made strict liability. Most of the time it works out ok in RL because most young girls are like that. That argument gets a whole lot weaker when the girl in question is basically some kind of superhero.

I’ve always been attracted to strong women weather loli or MILF in anime and RL. It’s not like I’m ranking them with a DBZ scouter or anything like that. Looks and personality are important too. Mostly though I’m talking about a minimum strength of personality to keep it together in difficult situations, super powers are a bonus. I’ve never been a fan of the ‘damsel in distress’ type.

I also don’t want a strong woman just ‘to protect me’ although it would be hawt if she did. I think of myself as pretty strong in RL and I prefer women on the same level. If was suddenly transported to the Nanoha Universe for example, with it’s plethora of mahou shoujo, I’d expect to turn into a mahou shounen like Chrono.

Convinced me. I’ve not seen either show (shame on me, I know; I should at least check out Nanoha some day), so I’m going based on pictures, & in that department, Fate can’t hold a candle to Al Azif.

As far as research goes, ‘twould be better to watch the shows, but since I know neither character they’re on an even footing if I go by pictures. I did check out some pics other than abq’s, & Al still wins.

Well, actually; Fate won by a larger margin then that of Yuki.. Ofcourse, it may have just meant Choco was more competition, then that of Aru, but theres no reason to crumble my hopes before the Fate/Yuki showdown even begins…. Actually the Saimoe vote breakdown by ISP showed that Yuki actually beat Desu in the Western countries. It was Japan that gave Desu her winning vote margin that day.
