Child Predators Could Face Execution In Texas
(AP) AUSTIN Backers of a Senate bill to toughen punishment for child-sex offenders said they’ve reached a deal that would permit the death penalty for offenders who repeatedly prey on children.
The compromise bill, which was distributed to Senate members on Tuesday, would allow the death penalty only for those twice convicted of raping a child 13 or younger. It also boosts mandatory minimum sentences for a variety of sex crimes against children.
“The goals here were pretty simple: protect children, send a message to child predators. Texas is not going to tolerate these kinds of heinous crimes,” said Rich Parsons, a spokesman for Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, a leader of the charge for tougher penalties for child molesters.
The House passed its version of the bill, dubbed Jessica’s Law, last month. It carries a minimum of 25 years to life in prison on a first conviction and possibly the death penalty for a second offense.
The law is named after Jessica Lunsford, a Florida girl who was abducted and killed. More than a dozen states have passed versions of Jessica’s Law to crack down on sex offenders and Gov. Rick Perry has deemed passage of a child sex offender bill a legislative emergency.
Staffers of Sen. Bob Deuell, R-Greenville, the bill’s sponsor, said the Senate could take up the compromise bill as soon as Thursday.
“The only thing we impose the death penalty for is two (penetration) aggravated sexual assaults of a child,” Deuell said.
“There’s a trigger in there that if the U.S. Supreme Court rules that the death penalty for nonmurder is unconstitutional, then everything will revert back to life without parole.”
The compromise tones down sex-offender penalties initially supported by Dewhurst and Deuell. The original bill called for mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years for a wide variety of sex crimes against children. A second offense for any of those could have resulted in the death penalty.
The compromise bill requires 25-year mandatory sentences only for first convictions of rape of a young child. It also requires many convicted predators to serve 75 percent of their sentences.
The proposal increases sexual assault of a child from a second- to first-degree felony, pushing minimum sentencing from two to 10 years. A second conviction could bring life without parole.
The bill also increases punishment indecency with a child and for possession of large amounts of child pornography.
Defense lawyers weren’t part of most of the compromise negotiations, said David Gonzalez, of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
He criticized the mandatory minimum sentencing and said it’s unconstitutional to sentence the death penalty for nonmurder offenses.

I believe that Louisiana has a similar law.
The problem with this law is that once the rape that would result in the death penalty is committed, the rapist has EVERY reason to kill the kid (gets rid of a witness), and NO reason NOT to kill the kid (what are they going to do? Kill the rapist twice?). This does nothing but put kids lives in danger.
Can’t we have a write in vote for Sakura Kusakabe?

Of course, he’s also be great in the Veep slot!
As if Capital Punishment wasn’t senseless enough already.
Hey why not a penalty for repeated assaulter of “cutting of his thinggy” instead?
All felonies should be punished with death, and none of this waiting ten years first crap. As soon as the judge says “Guilty” Someone pulls out a gun and shoots the person in the face.
Zero Tolerance.
umm… vs capital punishment being senseless… Its more sensible to keep people that arn’t worth the time to spit to eat government provided food in government provided shelter, with government provided cable and internet to spend millions of tax payer’s dollars?
but these words won’t change anything
@letfireraindown: It costs more to kill a criminal. Look it up.
I fail to see how a lifetime of food, shelter, medical care and surveillance would cost less than a bullet and a shovel, but whatever. If you want to be a humane little pansy and talk about lethal injections instead of the ideal, efficient way of doing it, then list sources instead of hoping we’re to lazy to look into it. I am, but that’s beside the point since I’m not going to just take your word for it.
That shit they pump into them must be some of the most expensive crap in the world, and it’s a waste since bleach is so cheap. Hell, they can even reuse the needle. No point in sterilization if the idea is to kill the person anyway.

Related to the fact that you guys don’t execute people with a bullet in the head, the poison and the electricity are not free. Also, when I think of final solution, I think of making murder legal for everybody, hilarity and chaos ensues.
In a perfect world we would all be dead.
…abq shouldn’t go to the U.S. … ever.
>In a perfect world we would all be dead.
You and your silly utopias, Anonymous. I wouldn’t be able to endure a world without the evil and horror.

Does it really? How much is a single bullet these days?
btw, where does pedobear come from?

4chan. (I think.)

It cost more to kill a criminal then to lock them up for life. Not because of the the cost of the execution like the dumbass above think, but because of the the cost of the trails and appeals that take place before the execution.
My main problem with ‘the final solution’ is that it is final. History is full of cases where people who have been found guilty of some horrible crime turn out to be innocent after all. It’s easy to let a guy out of prison, it’s real hard to bring them back from the dead.
(a) Pedobear is grandson of Norwegian farmer who settled in Minnesota. You can tell by the constant odor of Ludifisk burps. Now resides half the year in Las Vegas where he runs the only all loli showgirl 3 shows on weekends. No weekdays because of school and weekend s shows end at nine promptly as the little dears have to be home by 9:30.
(b) Texas is still the state where Jerry Lee married underage cousin and still could I believe. Also state with one of the most corrupt judicial systems in US. Death penalty popular becsuse state run by homicidal maniacs to begin with so next is death for crossing against the red light on foot.
Yoyu can always tell a Texan. Just don’t ever think they are listening.

Exactly, and these trials and appeals aren’t going away any time soon, despite how much some of you would like to see America turn into a police state where “we just shoot them in the head lol”. Therefore, why not just lock them up? It saves money and it is not state-sponsored murder.
vote for pedobear.. !!!
vote for pedobear.. !!!
moving toward a better tomorrow..
I’d love to know what they consider a “large amount of pornography”. When they leave the laws open to interpretation like that, I get nervous…
I want such a pedobear sticker for the back of my car.

Until the court system of Texas gets its shit straight involving death penalty cases, then capital punishments and any passage of bills involving it should be ceased.
In Texas, there have often been cases involving the death penalty, where the defense attornies provided by the state either come drunk to work or sleep during the trials. And guess what, EVERY single defendent that was supposed to be defended got executed. Oh, and here’s the kicker: the court system has done NOTHING to correct the lawyers’ incompetence or done anything to prevent this, as if though all went well in the trials! As a result, the defendants got stuck with lawyers who didn’t do their work, resulting in unfair trials, so we don’t even know for sure if the defendants were truly guilty or not! No wonder why this state has a disproportionate amount of death penalties compared to other states.
I mean, Texas, as the leading death penalty state, has 385 executions since 1976. Virginia, the state with the SECOND highest amount of executions, only has 98. Considering the fact that Texas doesn’t have that high of a crime rate, am I the only one who sees a problem with this picture?
Before the courts and legislatures can work on problems in the state, they SERIOUSLY need to clean up the shit stinking up their own system of law. They, as well as the rest of the US, also need to try to focus on non-sexual child abuse cases as well.
cmiiw..
texas -> pedo-city.. ??
Good. People who have sex with real children should be punished. But lolis are still ftw.
